The new network for aspiring and new leaders in education.

At our London Leadership Day (and the first event we have done this for), was to present on our impact so far with some brief headline figures. It was great to reflect on how far we’ve come in 6-8 months. Impact is something we will continue to reflect on (and will be demonstrated in our annual impact report). We recognise that we are grassroots and volunteer-led, therefore as a team we’ve had to reflect on capacity. One of our reflections was our structure.

For the forthcoming academic year, we have decided to structure our volunteer team in the following four pillars, you can see the relevant ways of working and areas of responsibility:

  • Events & Community (Connecting): Face-to-Face events, Virtual Events, Social Events, Newsletters & Community List;
  • Content (Sharing): Social Media, Website, Blog, Newsletters, YouTube & Podcast;
  • Programmes & Partnerships (Supporting & Collaborating): Partners, Collaborations, Coaching, Diversity & Inclusion;
  • Strategy & Impact (Networking): Strategy, Processes, Data & Impact, Volunteers, IT, Governance & Compliance.

Leading these teams are our team of four newly appointed vice chairs, who along with Ben, our founder and chair, will form our Strategic Team.

Secondary Pastoral Leader, Brooke Waldron who takes on the role of Vice Chair for Strategy and Impact said “My role within the network is to ensure we are operating at our very best.  I have been able to use skills learnt from running grassroots organisations and apply them to a more formal professional setting. It is great to hear everyone’s experiences and there is a real inspiration finding people who have been on a similar journey. I am excited to help Step Up grow and become a leading organisation supporting those stepping up to leadership roles or considering a change. Being apart of Step Up is going to enhance my capabilities in the education and business sector as one day I aspire to be a headteacher or CEO.”

Our Vice Chairs will take up their posts from 1st June, apart from Brooke who has started in this role with immediate effect. They will help facilitate our strategy day in late June, as well as presenting at our 1st Birthday Event on 10th June.
